O-An Zendo is dedicated to the core practice of zazen: sitting meditation. The zendo is open every Sunday for a regular meditation service at 10 a.m. Daily meditation is held from 5 to 6 p.m. throughout the year.
Our Sunday service includes incense lighting, chanting, sitting and walking meditation, and a Dharma talk. Our current schedule is as follows:
9:50 am – practitioners are to be seated in the zendo when the han (wooden gong) is struck to signal the beginning of the service
10:00 – 10:30 morning service and zazen (sitting meditation)
10:30 – 10:45 indoor kinhin (walking meditation)
10:45 – 11:00 zazen
11:00 – 11:30 Dharma talk by our teacher, question/answer period
11:30 – 11:45 outdoor kinhin
11:45 – 12:00 break
12:00 - 1:00 tea/dessert and discussion of practice
Private meetings (dokusan) with our teacher are available at 1 p.m. after the Sunday service by appointment.
Other activities at the zendo include t’ai chi and yoga instruction, Kirtan (Hindu devotional chanting), seasonal Buddhist celebrations, and social events. View our calendar for more details about our schedule.
