O-An Zendo is dedicated to the core practice of zazen: sitting meditation. The zendo is open every Sunday for a regular meditation service at 10 a.m.
Our Sunday service includes incense lighting, chanting, sitting and walking meditation, and a Dharma talk. Our current schedule is as follows:
9:50 am – practitioners are to be seated in the zendo when the han (wooden gong) is struck to signal the beginning of the service
10:00 – 10:30 morning service and zazen (sitting meditation)
10:30 – 10:45 indoor kinhin (walking meditation)
10:45 – 11:00 zazen
11:00 – 11:30 Dharma talk by our teacher or another practitioner, question/answer period
11:30 – 11:45 outdoor kinhin
11:45 – 12:00 break
12:00 - 1:00 tea/dessert and discussion of practice
We also currently offer full-day sittings the third Saturday of the month.
Private meetings (dokusan) with our teacher are available by appointment.
Other activities at the zendo include yoga instruction, seasonal Buddhist celebrations, ceremonial tea, and social events such as Zendo Lite Nite (sharing our musical and artistic talents just for fun). View our calendar for more details about our schedule.
